downside to gog some devs abandend there games on the site while they keep they steam version up If it's a classic game it will most likely work on gog since all there games are made to work with current os systems, as for steam it's up to the devs. Take note not all classic game works on steam some you have to config, it's probably the gog version that got ported over to steam, there also the ones that starwars battlefield 2 mp to work Otherwise i invested way too much time into steam to ever justify switching to another platform. If not primary, i do use GOG as a secondary fall back platform in case steam happens to experience an apocalyptic worst case scenario of erasing everything. GOG does have a way better customer support, an easier interface to navigate, less restrictions (obviously, since it doesn't have a market and therefore there aren't as many scammers to justify a higher security for the platform), and while it does have a smaller library of games, it does have actual good games in there and many are old games brought back to life, which was the original idea of GOG, and its great. Not to mention the creators of GOG are known to be the most consumer friendly gaming company in the industry. I am glad GOG exists though, it's a direct competitor to steam and competition prevents monopolies. So playing offline games is not an exclusive feature to GOG. Not to mention pretty much all 3rd party sites that offers great discounts, always have steam as their primary platform of distribution, whereas not every site has a GOG code to purchase games from.Ībout the offline thing, you can play steam games in offline mode when your internet breaks down. And of course, it has a market system that i can take advantage of it. It has a way bigger library of games than GOG. It offers a way better modding feature via its workshop, which is use it very often. Not to mention as far as i know, a valve employee some time ago said that all steam games have a No-DRM build for them so everyone can save them on their computer in case steam ever shuts down.Įither way i never really minded that my games were just licenses and not 100% no DRM. I also don't really have any concern of steam shutting down and taking away all our games, i've already spent 10 years of my life on it, and i don't see it shutting down in the near future. I'm biased on this because GOG doesn't have the same market opportunities of earning cash like steam does. The no DRM thing doesn't appeal to me to be honest.
